Field Service Technician

Shift One is currently looking for several Field Service Technicians to fill openings with our client, a top National employer. The position requires extensive travel within the US, Canada, and Mexico at short notice to support our client base. This is an exciting opportunity with growth potential!

Location

  • Live anywhere in the United States, ideally close to a major airport
  • On the road each week, the United States, Canada and Mexico. All work will be done at our customer’s sites.

 

Responsibilities of the Field Service Technician

  • Primary objective is to ensure that company machinery and robotics have the greatest availability possible
  • Can adapt to a variety of work environments and quickly solve problems
  • Provide excellent customer service while maintaining equipment.
  • Communicates on site and by telephone with customer personnel to determine issues. Provides after-hours pm-call emergency support to customers
  • Installing or upgrading equipment maintained by the company in various field locations, electrical / mechanical
  • Configuring hardware and software components after installation
  • Performing routine maintenance on technology equipment
  • Testing equipment to troubleshoot the issues. Participates in trial runs, investigative tests, repairs
  • Maintains documents of all inspections, maintenance and repair work, and failures
  • Maintaining all tools and equipment used during service calls
  • Teaching employees and customers how to use the equipment properly
  • Managing the stock of replacement parts and equipment
  • Is responsible for making one’s own travel arrangements to customer’s facilities

 

Qualifications of the Field Service Technician

  • Trade school graduate or two year Associate’s degree preferred in a mechanical, electrical, or mechanical technician program
  • Some working experience with industrial machinery; corrugated machinery a plus. As well as familiarity with PLC systems
  • Strong customer service skills. Written and verbal communication skills to understand issues customers have and to explain technical information to customers in clear terms
  • Problem-solving skills to diagnose problems with malfunctioning equipment
  • Time-management skills to handle appointments efficiently and stay on schedule
  • Attention to detail to spot issues and complete accurate reports about the repairs
  • Organizational skills to keep tools and paperwork organized while in the field
  • Must be willing to travel on short notice and spend more than 100% of the time traveling
  • Must be willing to be available during off hours and travel accordingly
  • Willingness to work weekends, holidays, and off shifts
  • Must be able to act calmly in stressful situations. Must be a team player and have the ability to work well with customers, subcontractors and co-workers
  • Writes concise, clear, and complete trip reports in the time frame required according to company procedures
  • Knowledge in the use of personal computers for word processing, database functions and communications
  • Understanding personal computer hardware setup and software configuration required
  • Some customer sites may require vaccination against COVID-19

 

Compensation of the Field Service Technician

  • Starting base pay is $28.00 to $36.00 / hr., depending on experience
  • Overtime is also available
